Leaders and Work Ministry: key support issues
So far, so good… there are over 600,000 jobs created since the first of the year, with total employment in the US now at record levels. Two thoughts to share:
Changing careers mid-way through one’s work life is challenging. A job seeker, with over 20 years of sales experience and results, decide to return to teaching high school. He taught at the high school level for a few years after completing his degree, and then went into sales. To change careers and return to teaching, he had to undertake a series of tasks to be successful. First, he returned to school to qualify as a substitute teacher. He made contact with all of the local school districts that were commutable from his location for substitute assignments, focused on meeting the Principals of the schools. After a period of 18 months, he connected with a school and was offered a teaching position. His quest included a need to re-qualify himself as a teacher, then locate and connect with the "hiring managers," the Principals of the schools with potential opportunity. With a lot of personal discipline, he attained his goal, demonstrating that changing careers can be done.
While a company may have five or ten+ jobs open, there are normally one or two that are very difficult to fill, especially in today’s job market. When possible, Work Ministry will get the details about a few key jobs and share the information with you for your group. If we work on the more difficult jobs and keep an employer informed about the effort, we have an opportunity to add value to the staffing efforts of an employer.
Over the next few months, and again in the fall of this year, a number of job fairs will be offered by a variety of resources. For example, Work Ministry is affiliated with Career Concepts USA, which conducts about 300 job fairs nationwide. Job fairs are a very effective way for members of your group to connect with a few employers, get past the paper, calls and email routines to meet with a real person from a target company. Please make a practice of consulting your local papers for job fairs in your area and share the details with your group. A link to the website of Career Concepts USA and their calendar of events is available on our "Resources & Links" page.
Zoominfo.com is the largest database of biographies on the Internet and an alliance partner of Work Ministry. Zoominfo welcomes your members to their database of bios. Please advise your members to click on the zoominfo.com link in the right hand column of the workministry.com page. A key point: Zoominfo has a very large customer base of recruiters, seeking candidates for retained search assignments. This is a great way to get connected with search and staffing pros!
