Job market talking points

Over the past two years, four million jobs have been added to the US economy. The pace of job creation has replaced all of the jobs lost with new jobs, with 134 million+ employees today compared to 132 million in 2001. In 2006, the job growth forecast is two million more jobs. The growth sectors are health care, financial services and some sectors of manufacturing and IT.

Job search successes

In a word...

A very diligent job seeker did all of the right things for many months to get his resume posted and viewed on the major job boards. He submitted his resume several times for an Operations Manager opportunity. One day, he changed his resume title from Plant Manager to Operations Manager. Within three weeks, he was interviewed and hired by the same employer that had passed on his resume several times. Soon after his starting date, he asked HR for information about their process that produced his interview opportunity. He was advised that the HR Specialist was looking for resumes of "Operations Managers" and did not review any other alternates. So the title change produced a career opportunity that never would have developed otherwise. Note to job seekers: get those key words and titles right.

Connecting with employers

Cycle time

All of us deal with employers in relation to fulfilling their staffing needs. As the pressures grow for success in staffing, employers will focus more on cycle time for filling open positions. How fast can an employer fill jobs? That will be a key criteria for recruiters as they select resources for fulfilling the company needs based upon performance. Your Job Support Group’s rapid response to job postings will provide a competitive advantage over other resources. Suggestion: As a Leader of a JSG, work actively on the information on jobs and get people on site with employers.
