The Career Transitions Center of Chicago’s mission is to provide professional, emotional and spiritual support to those seeking a job, looking for meaningful work, or otherwise undergoing a career transition. The following highlights other programs offered this month at CTC.  For details and registration, please see our website, www.ctcchicago.org.

Gaining the Edge through Innovation and Entrepreneurship represents a new line of programming generously sponsored by Charter One Bank. Look to this exciting series of programs and speakers to enhance your creativity, leadership and contribution in any effort you pursue. Gaining The Edge ignites your spirit and fuels enduring success. The series continues on December 1st, AHA! Thinking, and December 15th, Leveraging Your Return. Gaining the Edge programs welcome CTC clients, coaches and the public.  Details available under Special Programs on our website.
Bring your own breakfast to our Thursday Speakers Series for lively discussion the first and third Thursday of each month, 7:30 – 9:00 a.m.  CTC clients, coaches and the public are welcome free of charge. Our focus this month is how to create and maintain strong professional and personal connections.
Thursday, December 3rd – Paula Giovacchini, CTC Board Member, Certified Coach and owner of a sales development training practice, shares effective ways to build relationships that can lead to job, career or new business opportunity.
Thursday, December 17th – Bill Yacullo, CTC Board Member and Executive Recruiter, helps us all connect purposely and with confidence in social and professional settings throughout the holidays.
Stress Reduction Mondays, 9:00 - 12:00 a.m. the second Monday of each month, provides free 15 minute consultations promoting physical and emotional wellness during times of transition. Offered to CTC clients and coaches.

Leveraging the Value of Coaching at CTC on Thursday, December 17th, 12:00 – 12:45 p.m. - CTC Coach, Lynn Ostergaard helps CTC clients leverage the value and use of coaching to aid organization and execution of a successful self-directed plan for progress. Cultivating Resilience for Success in Your Career and Life, December 17th, 1- 3 p.m., is led by CTC Coach, Alison Musgrave and Robert Demaree, Master Certified Coach, two seasoned executives with extensive organizational and management insight, explore perspectives and practices to enhance our ability to steer through uncertainty and setbacks, creating new opportunities with confidence, focus, and steadfastness. Program offered to CTC clients and coaches. No cost but advanced registration required – email host@ctcchicago.org.

Networking, Networking, Networking!  Increasingly, the connections we make are key to knowledge, resources, opportunity and sense of community. Wendy McCormick, The Networking Coach, conducts monthly public networking groups, Networking for Connection and Opportunity, helping all who attend learn the most current and successful skills and techniques for effective, results-producing networking. CTC StrengthFinders Group
Do you have the opportunity to do what you do best every day? CTC StrengthFinders Group is a seven-week coaching program, which helps you identify your natural talents, your greatest value and contribution. Perfect for mid-career professionals and those seeking to revitalize their career, CTC’s StrengthFinders Group helps you develop the kind of clarity and conviction that drives a successful and satisfying future. Highly participatory and connecting with other group members, this is a wonderful learning opportunity. Starts Monday, December 7th for a total of seven Monday lunchtime sessions [11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.]. Cost is $300 (special discounted pricing for CTC clients and coaches of $200).  

A two-part workshop, Redesigning Your Future (Over 50),will be led by Ann Rich, Executive Director, Chicago Life Opportunities Initiative on Monday, January 11th and 25th, 5:30 - 8:30 pm. Participants 50+ will create new opportunity to look garnering the wisdom of their life’s experience, examining what's important and what’s next?  Move towards your next chapter of this life's adventure with the support and encouragement of others. Details and registration are available on the CTC Website (Cost is $50 for CTC clients and coaches/$75 for the public).

CTC Information Sessions
Led each month by CTC Program Director, Laura Sterkel, these meetings welcome/orient all interested in the programs and resources available through CTC.  The 50-minute agenda underscores the value of coaching as a CTC distinction and a key to successful job search and/or career transition.  A tour of our business center is hosted by a CTC staff member following the meeting.  All are welcome to this exploratory session. CTC Building Skills Workshops
Facilitated by CTC job/career coaches, these 2-hours seminars for clients are held in succession, repeated every four weeks.  Topics include:

Weekly Peer Groups and Networking Sessions
CTC Peer Groups are weekly sessions for CTC clients, held twice on Tuesdays and on Friday mornings. Intended to help clients maintain progress in their job search efforts by sharing “Success Stories, Lessons Learned, and Best Practices,” at a weekly check-up/update opportunity.  Clients hold each other accountable, share ideas and leads, celebrate successes and encourage each other in times of rejection, disappointment or temporary malaise.
St. Chrysostom’s Employment Council Monday Evening Speaker Series
Held at St. Chrys’, a CTC sponsor, on the North Side each Monday evening, the speakers present on a job-search related topic.  Participants are encouraged to network following the presentation. Organized and facilitated by members of the well-established Employment Council of the St. Chrys’ congregation, CTC clients, coaches and the public are welcomed.
CTC Thursday Morning Speakers Series
Serving as a programmatic “Open House” for CTC clients and the public, the Thursday speaker programs are held the first and third Thursdays, 7:30 – 9 a.m. at 711 West Monroe (occasionally a session will be held an additional Thursday depending on speaker availability or particular relevance). 
An interactive session wherein an “expert” speaker facilitates participant reflection and discussion around a timely job-search, career management topic or focuses on experience and insights gained through transition.  Clients, coaches and the public are welcome.
CTC Coaching Circles
Facilitated by CTC coaches, these multi-week coaching opportunities allow participants to delve deeply into topic areas relevant to job and career direction, greater effectiveness, success and satisfaction.  CTC charges $300 to the public; $200 discounted price to CTC clients and coaches.
CTC StrengthFinders Group is led by CTC Program Director, Laura Sterkel, and Coach, David Kaiser around the content in StrengthFinders 2.0 by Tom Rath and “Go, Put Your Strengths to Work” (authored by Marcus Buckingham, et al).  This group coaching format assists CTC clients in clarifying their strengths and work success.  The StrengthFinders experience is intended to serve both job search and ongoing career management. Additional one-on-one coaching sessions are available to participants.  Next course starts December 2009.
Life Map: Charting Your Course to a Life of Greater Purpose and Meaning, offered quarterly, is a multi-week program (4 weeks in succession and then an additional session one month following) is based upon the work of work-life coaching pioneer, Richard Leider, led by CTC’s founder, Al Gustafson and Laura Sterkel, Program Director.  Approximately 12 participants are led through an in-depth examination over 10 hours of group coaching with exercises and discussion. Participants develop goals and action-steps in the areas of work, relationships, personal growth and finances that can be put to work immediately. Two one-on-one coaching sessions are offered to all participants as part of the program.  CTC charges $300 to the public; $200 discounted price to CTC clients and coaches.  Next course starts January 2010.
Gaining The Edge Through Innovation and Entrepreneurship represents a new line of programming generously sponsored by Charter One Bank, intended to benefit CTC clients and the public. Gaining The Edge programs consist of a variety of learning opportunities including, presentations, seminars and coaching, led by CTC job coaches and expert entrepreneurs.  Gaining The Edge gives the edge to aspiring entrepreneurs and creative professionals who seek to become more confident, strategic and successful in organizations or in independent business pursuits. Continues in 2010.
Finding Work Retreat
This retreat has been attended by thousands in the Chicago area over the past 11 years.  It is offered through CTC sponsors and a diverse group of churches/parishes and career centers to the public (typically 20-30% of participants are CTC clients).  Finding Work provides a two-day opportunity for participants to put aside resumes and job boards to gain greater awareness of the opportunities as well as the range of confusion, angst and soul-searching accompanying transition.  Led by Al Gustafson and a c. 20-person retreat team of seasoned career management professionals, the retreat benefits persons of all ages, faiths and work experience, ministering to the spiritual and emotional dimensions of transition, helping participants find resolution and hope in their search for meaningful work.  One-on-one counseling and spiritual direction are available throughout the retreat.  $95 is requested from the 40-60 retreat participants but no one is turned away due to an inability to pay.  Next retreat: March 2010
CTC/Chicago Coach Federations Quarterly Programs
Once each quarter, CTC collaborates with Chicago Coach Federation (CCF) in a Monday evening workshop targeting CTC clients, coaches and the public.  The purpose of the program is to promote the use and value of coaching.  The programs can provide a helpful learning experience and content to both coaches and clients alike.  In addition to providing CTC coaches with a development opportunity, it also serves to connect them with the larger Chicago coaching community.  All are welcome. Cost is discounted for CTC clients and coaches.
