OK, set aside all the bad news promoted by the
media and check out the latest Manpower survey of 14,000 US
employers:
-28% are adding to staff
-58% are replacing staff (but not adding to
staff)
-8% are expecting staff reductions
For eleven straight quarters, employers have been
hiring. Sectors with steady or increasing hiring are construction, durable
and non-durable goods, manufacturing, transportation, public utilities,
wholesale and retail trade, services and public administration. Hiring is
edging down in finance, insurance, real estate and education. Of the four
survey regions of the US ((East, Midwest, South and West) those looking for work
are likely to find the strongest job prospects in the West, and the weakest in
the Midwest.

Biggest takeaway: If 9 out of 10 companies are
